15 December 2011

Today will be a day marked in the space calendar (NASA might have one…) as the day when the ingredients for life got blasted into space by a  Supernova but also as the day when our next exhibition Republic of the Moon previews! Seven international artists imagine a future for lunar life.

Republic of the Moon asks questions such as, how might we respond to this new territory which belongs to everyone? What will the politics of the moon look like? Can artists play a part in design, architecture and astronaut training? Tonight from 6pm - 8pm you will be able to preview the exhibition. Expect moon geese, moon smells, personal moons and even visions of moon advertising. It has even had a stamp of approval from the sci-fi legend that is Bruce Sterling

Tomorrow morning at 10.30am there will be an exclusive chance to meet the artists before they return home at our Breakfast with the Artists event. Mother Goose Agnes Meyer-Brandis, Leonid Tishkov, Liliane Lijn and Andy Gracie will discuss their work with FACT's CEO Mike Stubbs and The Arts Catalyst's Rob La Frenais. Tickets for this event cost £4 or £3 for FACT members and concessions. You can book them online, in person at the Box Office, or by calling 0871 902 5737.

Republic of the Moon  runs until the 26 February. Entry is free, and galleries are open from 12 - 6pm Sunday - Thursday and 11am - 6pm on Saturday.
