Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, a different kind of spy movie
The next film from Let the Right One In director, Tomas Alfredson opens at FACT today
16 September 2011Set in the 1970s, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is a spy thriller at its very best and an atmospheric and sobering contrast to glitzy life of a spy portrayed in the Bond series.
Gary Oldman stars as Geroge Smiley, a retired agent who has been recalled from retirement to uncover a Soviet Mole who has infiltrated MI6. Quietly assessing each suspect, George's skills as an undercover agent are pushed to their limits as he realises that one of his suspects has personally betrayed him.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is adapted from the classic John Le Carre novel (which was also made into a BBC drama). It is already being tipped as an awards season contender and has had great reviews praising its world of beige and grey as being more gripping than any special-effect fest of a blockbuster.
