5 July 2011

You can now pick up the 8 July - 18 August brochure and it is jam packed! Here are some of our highlights…

The big one has to be the first ever Liverpool Arabic Film Festival, which is running from today until the 10 July. The festival is an opportunity to see brand new releases, UK premieres and rare classics from across the Arabic speaking world.  We have even managed to source 35mm prints of The Land, Cairo Station and Alexandria Why? for a Youssef Chahine Retrospective to close the festival.

The Screen Arts Festival is also launching this month, running from 29 July – 11 August. A new cross-arts initiative, the festival showcases dance, opera, theatre and music as well as films and documentaries.  We are looking forward to documentary, Flying Monsters, on the 30 July which brings to live prehistoric flying dinosaurs through state-of-the-art CGI technology as it is accompanied with a live satellite Q&A from the legendary Sir David Attenborough. Check out the Screen Arts section on the Picturehouse website for some more info.

To coincide with our current exhibition, Semiconductor: Worlds in the Making, we have a programme of events including a Meet the Artists discussion on the 14 July where Semiconductor will talk about the research and production of Worlds in the Making. Dr Jan Zalasiewic, geologist and senior lecturer at the University of Leicester will also be there reflecting on the earth’s natural phenomena. On the 20 July we will be screening a Werner Herzog Double Bill of La Soufrière and Encounters at the End of the World.

We'd love to hear your thoughts on the brochure, so do get in touch!
