The Room was originally released in 2003 and had a very brief run in LA. Widely renouned as the BEST worst movie ever made (quite an achievement!), the film quickly developed a cult following leading to screenings worldwide.\r\n
The plot goes that a successful banker, Johnny, is madly in love with his fiancée, Lisa, and intends to get married next month. His plans take a horrid turn when he finds out the truth about Lisa and the people surrounding him. But it’s not the plot that is interesting about The Room; it’s director and lead actor Tommy Wiseau. As he provided the films sole source of funding ($6 million) he had complete creative control whilst being really really bad at the filmmaking process.\r\n
We have read a couple of reviews of screenings of The Room in the U.S.A. where apparently the audience members come in costume like their favourite character. That’s a bit weird by itself but what tops it is the fact that they bring along white plastic spoons to throw whilst they yell, “Spoon Spoon!” when there’s a piece of artwork shaped like a spoon on the film….. The Room is also full of OTT love scenes as well as the immortalised on YouTube line, “You’re tearing me apart Lisa”.\r\n
From just watching the trailer alone, we are not sure if Wiseau was being serious when he created this film. We hoped not but unfortunately, he maintains that he was (argh!!). Either way, watching The Room is actually really enjoyable as it’s just so unbelievably odd.\r\n
