10 May 2011

As part of our Music and Film Series, the evening will start with a screening of the rockumentary, loudQUIETloud: a film about the Pixies which paints a compelling portrait of four band members and their difficult, but ultimately triumphant return on their 2004 reunion tour.

The tour was cited as the musical event of the year in 2004, which would make the documentary a must-see by itself. But as well as featuring hits like Here Comes Your Man and This Monkey Has Gone to Heaven, loudQUIETloud delves into the personal lives of the band members such as Kim Deal’s and David Lovering’s battle with sobriety and the blatant lack of communication between the four.  The end result is a QUIET, bittersweet documentary about a loud rock band that is coming to grips with their growing fame but also the strange uncertainty of middle age (all the men are pretty bald now).

The screening will be followed by two quirky sets of cover songs by the duo, Organ Freeman and local band el Chupacabras de roca.
