This week is your last chance to see the toe-taping French documentary, Benda Bilili, which recently beat Submarine (also a great film, you must see this too!) as film critic, Mark Kermode’s Film of the Week

The documentary follows polio victim Ricky, who wants to make Staff Benda Bilili the best band in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Roger, a street child, who wants more than anything to join these stars of the ghetto. Benda Bilili translates as “see beyond”, which has profound meaning for this group of musicians who include five paraplegics. The film follows the bands eye-opening journey from the slums of the capital city of the Congo, to their 2009 European Tour and release of the critically acclaimed album, Très Très Fort.

Benda Bilili is definitely worth seeing, if not for the story but just for the amazing customised tricycles, which the band gets about on.  You can book tickets to see the film at FACT online, and can even see the band live when they tour the UK in May.
