20 April 2011

Green Light is a week of environmental inspired programming as part of the Knowledge Lives Everywhere exhibition presented by Horticultural Artist, Jennifer Welch and tenantspin.

FACT's Sarah Forrest sat down with Jennifer in Gallery 2 and had a chat about how her artistic practice has fuelled her inspiration for the week....

"A first for FACT galleries, Jennifer’s artistic practice centers on gardening installation. Initially I was a bit confused about how seemingly different (though equally messy) art and gardening could be brought together in such a way but Jennifer explained that the act of collaboration really is the key. Everyone can relate to gardening in one way or another so it can be the perfect tool to address issues, concepts and also to fuel discussion. Recently Jennifer has been gardening in inaccessible orphan spaces to highlight the wasted space so keep your eyes open around the city to spot these fantastic creations.

Jennifer’s recommendation for the week is a discussion session with Richard Reynolds, which is taking place during the afternoon on the 21 April. I have been told that Richard is THE Guerilla Gardening Guru who lives by the motto “Lets fight the filth with forks and flowers”. Richard documents Guerilla Gardeners all over the world and documents all his findings on his great blog, which is well worth a look.

Over the weekend, Green Light, is hosting a taster session on the Saturday with yummy vegan café, Food From Nowhere. Then on Sunday, there will be Liverpool’s FIRST Seed and Plant swap. If you have any leftover seeds or un-wanted plants, just bring them along for a new-to-you replacement!"

Green Light is talking place in Gallery 2 between 20 – 27 April and you can check out the full listings here.
