During the four day workshop in Warrington's Verve Foyer FACT based freelance filmakers Alex Harrison and Lucy Gonzalez worked with a group of young people who had put themselves forward to create a 'Canvas Animation' based around the ideas of social networking and Facebook.  The first day involved group discussions of the the themes and as everybody had an opinion, we made quick progress!  We then turned our ideas into storyboards and the group started to design their canvas which would later be animated.

The second day involved the group taking on different roles; taking photos, finishing off the canvas and cutting the photos out to create frame by frame images which we could use for filming the following day. On day three we set the DV camera up and began to shoot the animation which involved patience and precision which the young people at the foyer had plenty of. On our final day, we finished off the animation, added sound effects and edited the piece, as well as mixing down the films for exporting to the web.

The four days were a lot of fun and the animation shows what can happen with a little creativity and lots of hard work.  As well as learning various animation and stop-motion techniques the group displayed a great sense of visual awareness and style, which is seen in many of today's adverts in the professional TV industry.
