Tomorrow we are screening director Andrei Tarkovsky's second film, Andrei Rublev, a sweeping retelling of the life of the 15th-century Russian painter. Unfolding in a free-flowing series of eight episodes, Andrei Rublev follows the painter as he faces unbearable violence; endless attacks by the crude and malicious Tartars, and, eventually, a crippling crisis of faith.

Both Andrei's - Rublev and Tarkovsky - were prolific in their respective fields, Rublev is known as the greatest Russian painter of Orthodox icons and frescoes and had a Moscow Museum named after him. Tarkovsky (also Russian) received numerous awards throughout his career including the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival.
