9 September 2010

For the past few weeks, we’ve been asking for your old clothes for one of our Biennial artists, Kaarina Kaikkonen, to use in a huge sculpture.

It’s now finished and hanging in our Atrium!  Hundreds of you donated your lightweight tops and children’s clothes, which Kaarina has used to create a beautiful structure hanging from the ceiling just by our rear entrance.  We wanted to say thank you to everybody that donated their clothing – the sculpture looks brilliant, and of course all items will be donated to Oxfam afterwards so we’ve helped a good cause.

We’re still very busy preparing for the Biennial exhibition, which will be opening on 18 September, so whilst are galleries are closed until then why not pop down and try and spot your clothes in Kaarina’s beautiful sculpture? Quite a few of us from the FACT office were surprised this morning to be greeted by our old t-shirts on the way into work!

The Daily Post ran a piece on Kaarin’s work, here is a link to the interview that explains the reason behind her work and shows some of the process behind creating it.
