British filmmakers, and film-lovers are reeling from the news that the UK Film Council has been cut by the government. This comes as a shock after the homegrown successes of 2009, such as Slumdog Millionaire, brought huge crowds to FACT and cinemas all over the country. Though funding still remains for British films, it is unclear who will now control that money.

The closure is planned to be completed by 2012 and as UK cinema fanatics, we'll be keeping a close eye on what this means and what the repercussions will be.
