Those of you who caught Iron Man 2 at FACT will doubtless be aware that Iron Man operates in the Marvel universe, a vast alternate reality populated by super-heroes, super-villains, aliens, planet-sized robots and supernatural beings. Towering over the glut of comic book films that are currently being made at present is the probability, which just became a certainty, of an Avengers Movie.

The Avengers, as well as being well spoken English spies from the 60s, are a changing team of superheroes that have included in their ranks Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America, Thor, Spiderman, Wolverine and lots of other comic book characters that, if you are interested, you already know about.

The upshot of all of this is that at the Comic-Con event which happened in San Diego last weekend, the first collection of all of the various actors who will play the members of the team-to-end-all-teams has taken place. Alongside Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), there stood Chris Hemsworth (Thor in the Kenneth Branagh-directed film to be released next year), Mark Ruffalo (the third actor to play Hulk in the last few years), Chris Evans (Captain America), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury). For super-nerds like myself, this is something akin to having all of your christmases, new years, birthdays, easters, weekends and supposed-sick-days at once.
