With regards FACT's Persistence of Vision exhibition, no discussion of vision, memory and media would be complete without a reference to Chris Marker's 1983 masterwork 'Sans Soleil' (Amazon link).
The film draws on a dazzling array of video from world festivals, life, death, reproduction and natural and man-made wonders, questioning the relationship between mankind and our environment, whilst prompting myriad discussions about the nature of memory and self.
It's an evocative and poetic piece of film-making that is well worth a watch if you can track it down.
