FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) has partnered with Hurricane Films (Of Time and the City, Under the Mud) to showcase the powerful features of NorthernNet’s new Media Access Bureaux (MAB) scheme.

NorthernNet have equipped 15 venues across the North, including FACT, with the latest in hardware and connectivity for enabling fast, effective delivery across the region. For the first time the North West, Yorkshire and the North East will have a single high speed, digital network that connects the region’s creative and digital industry sectors and customers.

The pay-as-you-go Media Access Bureaux are designed to support the thousands of SMEs who are moving into areas of digital content creation. From website development and PR/Marketing agencies to designers and filmmakers, the MAB scheme offers creative businesses a tool to share files extremely quickly and use high quality video conferencing.

At an invite-only event today (Tuesday, 27 April), industry professionals will receive a demonstration of the MAB scheme through the example of Hurricane Films and FACT joint venture MyWar: Northern Stories.

A 30-minute film showing the testimonies of people from across the North who have experienced war, MyWar: Northern Stories was researched, shot and edited in just three weeks to link in with FACT’s current exhibition MyWar. Hurricane Films travelled across the North gathering people’s testimonies, training SMEs in recording and filming techniques in the process. Then, utilising the Media Access Bureaux network, they captured and edited the raw material and piped it back to FACT’s MAB to take back to the studio for fine-tuning.

Roger McKinley, FACT Production Manager, says:
“This is a unique opportunity to showcase the power of creative collaboration across the region, and a valuable lesson in how to best utilise a brand new and innovative technological infrastructure that will give the region the edge in media delivery for years to come.”
