We are delighted to report that Apichatpong Weerasethkul's A Letter to Uncle Boonmee has been awarded the Grand Prize at the 55th International Short Film Festival Oberhausen, "For creating a cinematographic idiom that transcends conventional documentary realism or its representation. For evolving a temporality that is unhurried and reflexive and yet deeply disturbing as it references the brutalities of army and war through re-imagining the village of Nabua," read the International Jury statement.

The film also won the Prize of the Jury of the Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia, who felt the film was convincing in its clever design and sensuality. A Letter to Uncle Boonmee is one element of the multi-platform Primitive project, co-commissioned by Animate Projects with Haus der Kunst, Munich and FACT, Liverpool. The film has its UK premiere alongside the Primitive installation, as part of the AND Festival in Liverpool this September.
