FACT up for architecture gong

The judging panel for the Liverpool Architectural Society 2008 awards, which includes Roger Stephenson OBE, Tom Bloxham MBE, artist Ben Johnson and editor of Architects Journal Kieran Long, have made the shortlist based in eight categories including community, commercial, conservation and small projects. FACT's Wood Street headquarters in the centre of the historic Ropewalks area is shortlisted in the regeneration category and is up against Birkenhead Park Pavilion in Wirral, Vanilla Factory at 39 Fleet Street and Temple Square on Temple Street. The winners will be revealed at a ceremony on Thursday 09 October.
FACT was designed by architects Austin Smith: Lord and the centre opened in February 2003. Mike Stubbs, Director and CEO of FACT says, "FACT represented a multi million pound investment in the regeneration of the Ropewalks district. Ropewalks is getting more and more visitors, an exciting and thriving nightlife and an expanding commercial sector, with FACT right in the centre of it all. We're delighted to be nominated in this our fifth year."
