Jarvis Cocker in Liverpool Film Night
14 May 2007
Jarvis Cocker reads the monologue of Mariott Edgar in The Lion and Albert during this Thursday's Liverpool Film Night at FACT. The film is directed by Merseyside filmmaker Martin Wallace - who's directed music videos for the indie rockers and also for other acts like Aphex Twin and Polyphonic Spree. His film also includes new illustrations by Stuckist Sexton Ming.
Wallace's film is one of eight entries shortlisted for Liverpool Film Night, part of SEEN, FACT's adventurous and experimental film programme. The selection has been made by American film / video artist and VJ Jackie Passmore, who has is taking time out from touring with bands like Ladytron and Stereolab to be the special guest selecting and dissecting the entries at this Thursday's event. She will lead a Q&A on the night designed to give budding directors more advice about how to make and break it in the industry.
And she's selected an all-star cast. Sam Meech brings the new music video by Liverpool folk singer John Smith, in John Smith: The Magician. Filmed in Super 8 and utilising subtle techniques to evoke and feeling of the uncanny, Sam Meech (who is also part of another local music collective Kinetic Fallacy) taps into the poetic potential of the song.
Emily Voelker has produced Final Hand along with tenantspin participants, a story about loneliness in Liverpool. The film is being shown in memory of Mark Hobson, writer and director of the film, who died a few weeks ago. Dance is a the major theme in Maria Malone's Puddle Dance, Ryan Doyle's Sacrifice and Kevin John Casey's Delayed Until Further Notice, set in Waterloo Station in London.
