The University of Liverpool's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Drummond Bone, has been appointed Chairman of Liverpool arts foundation FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology). The Vice Chancellor will bring his strong arts background as Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and member of the Liverpool Capital of Culture Board to the role in which he will head up a series of innovative arts, education and new media programmes.

Commenting on his new appointment, Professor Bone said, "FACT brings film and new media artwork to the very forefront of Liverpool's cultural scene. I am delighted to have been chosen as Chairman of FACT at such an exciting time in its development and am looking forward to an exciting programme of events in the run up to 2008."

Executive Director of FACT, Eddie Berg, said: "FACT's success is built on values of creativity, innovation, enterprise and partnership - values which Drummond has continually championed since his appointment as Vice-Chancellor of the University. This, combined with his affinity and enthusiasm for the work of FACT, made him the outstanding choice for the role."

He added, "As the organisation builds on the success and public and critical acclaim of the £11 million FACT Centre in preparation to launch a raft of major new initiatives, we anticipate that Drummond's experience, knowledge and commitment will help to guide FACT towards another important and exiting stage of its development."
