Healthy Spaces

Find out more about our Healthy Spaces programme

A series of commissions and projects produced by FACT, working in partnership with artists, health organisations, the private sector, Liverpool City Council and Liverpool PCT, the Healthy Spaces programme reflect the Five Ways to Wellbeing.

FACT believes artists can play an intrinsic role in the creation of healthy spaces using digital arts and new media. We believe through artist interventions we can encourage health and wellbeing within spaces - this could be physical, imaginary or emotional. There are a number of ways which we deliver this work; through commissions for waiting rooms, in-hosptial commissions, participatory projects and online resources.

This programme was developed with the following aims

  • Deliver high quality commissions within health settings
  • Improve health and wellbeing through commissioning artworks or developing projects that encourage people to be active, take notice, connect, keep learning and give.
  • Establish strong delivery partnerships and collaborative projects
  • Develop projects which will have a positive impact on users health and well-being

Find out more about Healthy Spaces current and past projects on the Projects section of our website. We also install artworks in health centres and can do so locally or nationally. For more information about this, visit the Services section of the website.

The Programme is delivered through three strands:

Waiting Commissions

Developed to enhance the environment of health centre waiting rooms and to create spaces that offer interest and distraction from the task of waiting, these projects have been developed as part of a legacy for the 2008 European Capital of Culture Waiting project.

In-Hospital Commissions

FACT commissions artists to work within hospital environments with staff, patients, clients and family members to develop projects that have a therapeutic affect on users. The commissions have been created within wards and other areas of the hospitals.

Participatory Projects

FACT and Mersey Care NHS Trust have been working in partnership to deliver a series of workshop-based projects with service users since 2009. The projects have been designed to offer creative skills development and opportunities for social engagement for service users.
