Are you 13 - 25 and interested in film, art and creative technology?
Freehand is the name of our programme of events and workshops aimed at 13-25 year olds who are interested in getting creative with technology and film.
We run one-off workshops called Do Something! Saturdays to get you introduced to a variety of technologies and creative practices. These are part of the public programme of events relating to the main exhibition at FACT. If you’re interested, have a look at our What’s On page for the latest.
Looking for something a bit more in-depth? We’ve also got opportunities to get involved in ongoing projects. The best way to find out about these is to get on our mailing list – drop us an email and we’ll sort this out for you.
We also run projects in the community, which are tailored to different groups’ requirements and aims. If you’d like to explore this further or arrange a free tour of the building for your group, get in touch and we’ll have a chat!
Check out these short videos to see the sort of thing we do at Freehand:
"Freehand is a social hub for anything creative. Ideas, small or big are always acknowledged and encouraged no matter how far-fetched they sound. It's a backstage pass to the creative world and opens up opportunities that are not only fun and engaging, but useful too." Reuben, Freehand member
"FACT has helped me explore my creative skills, given me the opportunity to collaborate with other young creative people and enabled me to execute my own ideas through film, curating and other types of media" Teresa, Freehand member

Deadline for applications: Tuesday 23 August, 5pm
If you're 16-19, not in university, and you'd love a career in film, keep reading! FACT is delivering BFI Film Academy in collaboration with professional filmmakers this Autumn, where you'll have the opportunity to make a short film as part of a crew. That's the whole process from initial ideas to final edits.
This programme will build your confidence and skillset by giving you practical experience in the film industry. As a BFI Film Academy alumnus, you'll have an understanding of the wider sector and the roles available. Not to mention you'll have built a fantastic network of like-minded creative people!
We're looking for the most driven, passionate people to join the crew whatever their background or ability - so if that's you, please apply!
The cost of the whole course is £25, but bursaries are available on application. The sessions will only ever be on weekends or during half term. Download the application form here and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org by 5pm on Tuesday 23 August.
We’re always running Freehand workshops to introduce you to art, film, and creative technology. The most regular events are Do Something! Saturdays, which are usually linked to current FACT exhibitions.
If you want the most up-to-date information about our programme, please email Laura and she’ll make sure you’re signed up to our young people’s newsletter. Whether you’re a young person or you work with young people, she’d love to hear from you!
In the meantime, why not have a look at our What’s On page to find out what’s coming up?
